The private-sector economic development body, Opportunity North East (ONE) and Scottish Enterprise (SE), have announced platform deck space solutions in the latest of a series of project specific opportunities as part of their offshore oil and gas decommissioning programme.

The fifth opportunity invites Scottish supply chain companies to propose solutions for offshore platform deck space, with the specific aim of reducing deck space requirements to improve running costs during the decommissioning phase.  Companies are asked to submit proposals for innovative

and creative solutions based on existing technology to improve efficiency and reduce cost and safety risk in an environmentally responsible manner.

Opportunity North East’s Oil, Gas & Energy Sector Board Chairman, Trevor Garlick OBE, said: “We have been working with operators to identify decommissioning projects and match these with suitable suppliers to showcase fit-for-purpose solutions.   “A vital feature of this programme is the focus on existing technology.  We are looking for commercially available solutions based on proven technology; this could be applying it in new or innovative ways or bundling services to create a new offering.”

Submissions are reviewed by an industry panel, with those selected going on to pitch their solutions to up to fourteen oil & gas operators.  Ongoing support is provided throughout the process, including one-to-ones around building business cases and developing the operator pitches. Participants get access to feedback from the operators, giving them an improved understanding of their needs, helping them to build more robust business cases and potentially accessing further business support if required. Operator sponsors gain direct access to targeted solutions focused on their future decommissioning project needs, which can help to inform their related procurement and contracting strategies.
