A POPULAR Aberdeen chipper has closed after a fire broke out on Monday afternoon.

Two fire appliances were sent to The Ashvale on Jesmond Drive in Bridge of Don shortly after 1.30pm.

Images seen on social media show the interior is now badly damaged, though the full extent is yet to be known.

Fire engines were at the premises for nearly two hours, leaving at 3.11pm.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “We received a call at 1:35pm and sent two appliances.

“We left the scene at 3.11pm.”
