MONTROSE Port Authority (MPA) has taken a significant step towards solidifying its position as one of Scotland’s key offshore energy hubs with the acquisition of 45 acres of prime industrial land in the town. This strategic move nearly doubles the port’s existing footprint, marking a pivotal moment in its expansion plans.
The organisation purchased Montrose Commercial Park from Equipco Investments Ltd in a deal worth millions of pounds.

The acquisition brings the total land owned by Montrose Port Authority to more than 100 acres, with 59 acres at the harbour already.
Situated on Forties Road, the commercial park site comprises the former Petrofac fire safety training facility and the Charleton House former maternity hospital, which has now been demolished.
The land acquisition is a crucial part of MPA’s long-term vision to enhance its capabilities and attract more business in the offshore energy sector. With its unrivalled location and direct access to North Sea wind farms, Montrose is rapidly emerging as a central operations and maintenance hub for renewable projects on Scotland’s East Coast.
Tom Hutchison, chief executive of Montrose Port Authority, commented:
“This landmark expansion amplifies our impact far beyond almost doubling our footprint. We’re creating opportunities for new businesses, local jobs, and economic growth (and) positioning Montrose at the forefront of Scotland’s energy transition.”
Montrose Port Authority hosts the operations and maintenance base for the Seagreen wind farm and is also to host the Inch Cape wind farm development, involving an investment of more than £5m and create 50 jobs.
Mr Hutchison added: “Our vision looks to the long term.
“We are laying the groundwork for future generations, ensuring Montrose remains pivotal in both traditional and renewable energy sectors.”
Angus Council leader Bill Duff said: “Supporting the growth of the economy is a key priority for Angus Council.
“This announcement shows how the port is playing a vital role in capitalising on opportunities within the energy sector to support local jobs, increase capacity to support the growing clean energy sector and continue to establish Montrose and Angus as a key player in the green economy.”
