A North East community group making “leaps and bounds” in the services it offers has been congratulated at the Scottish Parliament.
The Banff, Macduff and District Men’s Shed won the Scottish association’s annual award for the second year running.
A Holyrood motion celebrating the achievement was lodged by North East MSP Liam Kerr and has secured cross-party support.
Commenting on the award, Seamus Logan MP said:
“I’m delighted for everyone involved in the Banff, Macduff and District Men’s Shed on achieving this award for the second year in a row, and in the face of strong competition.
“The Men’s Shed movement is going from strength to strength and I’m pleased we have several excellent examples in this constituency of what can be achieved. Very well done to Banff, Macduff and District who have set the bar for other local Men’s Sheds to beat next year.”
Mr Kerr visited the Fife Street premises in Macduff to present members with a framed copy of the accolade.
The Men’s Shed has been actively involved in various community projects such as helping local litter pickups, and refurbishing notice boards in Macduff and Banff.
The branch also offers MOT4Men sessions, which encourages early diagnosis of health issues.
Mr Kerr said:
“I’d like to thank the Banff, Macduff and District branch for their hospitality.
“There are lots of Men’s Sheds across the North East and each one is unique for the work they do and the kinship they provide.
“The group here have come on leaps and bounds since the old Fife Street school was transferred to community use in 2022.
“Two top awards in the following two years are a ringing endorsement of the important work that is done here, which should be recognised in the Scottish Parliament.
In Case You Missed it:
“Men’s Sheds are a great boon in all kinds of ways.
“They cut down the amount the NHS would need to spend on preventative health. They reduce loneliness, and they tell a generation of people that their skills and experience are still valued.”
