Raeburn Christie Clark & Wallace LLP acquires Mackie & Dewar Solicitors

TWO of the best-know names in the North-east legal sector are to join forces, it has been announced.

Raeburn Christie Clark & Wallace LLP has completed the purchase of Aberdeen-based law practice Mackie & Dewar. Callum McDonald, Managing Partner at RCCW, stated: “We are delighted to take aboard the business of Mackie & Dewar. The two firms both have long histories, shared expertise and shared values. This acquisition fits well with our long term growth strategy.”

Specialising in Private Client matters and Residential Conveyancing, Mackie & Dewar has hitherto also carried out a variety of other legal work including Criminal and Family Law. 

Partner Alistair Marshall will join RCCW as a Consultant focusing on Residential Conveyancing and Private Client matters. Alistair will oversee the smooth transition of the business to RCCW’s head office at 12-16 Albyn Place, Aberdeen.

The agreement will ensure that our clients will continue to enjoy the first class service we have provided with a firm that shares our values and legal heritage. In addition, our clients will benefit from access to the wider range of legal services that RCCW can provide as a full service LLP, not only in Aberdeen but across their branch network of five offices in the North-East. Clients will also have access to independent financial service advice from the Financial Services team within the firm.” 

Mackie & Dewar’s origins go back to the firm’s original founder James D. Mackie, who commenced practice in the early 20th Century. Between the wars he was joined by David Dewar and the firm has a strong legal pedigree in the region. Over the years, a good number of well-respected local lawyers were trained there and worked with the firm either as assistants or partners. The most recently retired partners, Richard Shirreffs and John MacRae, both retain an association with the firm, and John MacRae remains a key member of the local legal community in his capacity as Chairman of ASPC, an organisation with which the firm has had close involvement since ASPC was set up in the late 1960s. 

The firm currently comprises two Partners, senior partner, Mike Monro, who has, for many years, dealt predominantly with the firm’s criminal court business, and Alistair Marshall, Both Partners have spent their entire career at the firm, developing longstanding client relationships which will continue following this agreement with RCCW. Mike Monro will be taking up a post as consultant with the Grant Smith Law Practice. The firm’s Associate, Sharon McKilligin, who has dealt with family law matters, will be taking up a post with Brown and MacRae, Solicitors, in Turriff.

Managing Partner Callum McDonald and I were school friends and have remained in contact throughout our careers in Aberdeen. RCCW is a well-established firm in the North East with its headquarters in Aberdeen and branches in Banchory, Ellon, Inverurie, Stonehaven and Aberdeen’s Union Street. The current firm is a result of a merger between prominent Aberdeen firms Raeburn Christie and Clark & Wallace in 2004 and RCCW are now well known for their Residential and Commercial Property expertise and renowned locally for the Private Client services. As a full service firm RCCW advises local and national clients on a range of personal and business matters including Employment, Commercial, Corporate and Family Law.
