QUARTZELEC, a long-established provider of rotating machine and engineering support services to the local Aberdeen economy is expanding its operations in the region. Having successfully met requirements from clients in the maritime, oil & gas, power-generation, hydro and renewables sectors for over 30‑years, it is now relocating into two separate locations.
A new waterside facility, that’s still close to its loyal customer base will become the hub for the dedicated and experienced Marine Engineering team to continue to support the local marine markets as well as providing an established base for the LV Contracting team. Additionally, the location will serve to offer bespoke storage of electrical machines including regular testing and maintenance to ensure machine reliability.

Quartzelec is also taking the opportunity to relocate its main workshop to a new facility in Dyce. As well as being able to streamline the repair, rewind, service and test processes, the business will be integrating the manufacturing operation for Quartzteq’s LIFEVIEW® suite of Condition Monitoring sensors and analysers. With significant growth over recent years the existing dockside facility was becoming increasingly restrictive and was unable to accommodate workshop expansion plans. With a high proportion of LIFEVIEW® customers being located internationally, proximity to the airport was an added advantage.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for our Aberdeen businesses and the expanding portfolio of customers we serve,” stated Paul Oliver, Business Unit Manager for Quartzelec’s Aberdeen Operations. “Efficiency is the name of the game, and these two new locations enable us to optimise and expand our overall working floor plan plus, deliver an enhanced service to local industry. It also helps safeguard and even grow local job opportunities plus be more adaptive and responsive, which is vital in today’s changing and more competitive market.”
He continued: “We will continue to deliver the same quality service to all our customers, but with increased efficiency and space, we can look to add new machining and support capabilities that will allow the business to continue to grow. Similarly, developing a much larger product assembly area for our LIFEVIEW® solutions means we can double throughput and reduce lead time in line with our current global demands. In addition to optimising floor space, we are also looking to integrate new craneage within the workshop facility in Dyce, to significantly improve current capabilities.”
The dual facility move, is planned for completion by the end of July 2022 and all existing staff will be retained, with recruitment being instigated for additional qualified electricians. The business is also looking to recruit a number of apprentices this year – as the business expands its delivery of key services.
