Renowned Aberdeen martial artist and humanitarian, Ronald Stewart Watt OBE, 10th Dan (Meijin) in Shotokan Karate (ISKS) and 10th Dan with the International Budo Academy, has been honoured with the prestigious IBSSA Knights of Cyprus – Humanitarian Award.
The award is in recognition of Watt’s lifelong dedication to martial arts promotion, his humanitarian efforts, and his unwavering commitment to supporting communities worldwide.

Watt, who has spent almost six decades teaching and advancing Shotokan Karate and has taught over 20,000 students, has earned international respect as a grandmaster and leader in the martial arts community and was awarded the Humanitarian Award (Gold with Diamonds) in Hungary.
He was presented the award by Prince Jose ,Princess Isabel of Portugal ,Sir George Popper and Lady Anna Popper of Hungary
His work goes beyond the dojo, focusing on fostering discipline, respect, and personal development among his students.
His influence has shaped the lives of thousands of practitioners globally, contributing to the growth of martial arts as a discipline and lifestyle.
The International Bodyguard and Security Services Association (IBSSA), through its Knights of Cyprus Order, recognised Watt for his outstanding humanitarian work.
His efforts include promoting peace, education, and cultural exchange through martial arts, as well as working to support underprivileged communities.
Watt’s dedication to using martial arts as a tool for positive change in society aligns perfectly with the values of the IBSSA, which seeks to acknowledge those who make significant contributions to the betterment of humanity.

In addition to his many accomplishments in martial arts, Watt received The Order of the Rising Sun from the Emperor of Japan 2010 and an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) from the late Queen in 2011 for his contributions to sports and education in the UK.
His continuous work in promoting Shotokan Karate and supporting humanitarian efforts have established him as a respected figure both in and out of the martial arts community.
