An independent report on Aberdeen’s economy has been published.

The 2026 Economic Policy Panel Report outlined the continuing need for delivery of the Regional Economic Strategy with a focus on productivity, diversification, and infrastructure investment to support a resilient and balanced economy for the region.

The report highlights that the North East economy continues to perform relatively well compared with the rest of the country, however its performance is closely tied to the energy sector and there is an increasing need to diversify to improve resilience.

Also highlighted were ongoing investments in tourism infrastructure; digital connectivity; hospitality; science facilities; and energy transition projects.

The Aberdeen Economic Policy Panel was started in 2017 to provide independent review of the performance of the North East economy. The Panel has been made up of professionals from industry, academia, and the public sector to assess the current economic position of the region, and the longer-term priorities that influence performance.
