New research from car scrappage comparison provider Scrap Car Comparison reveals Aberdeen as the city in the UK with the least trusted mechanics and car repair businesses. The study, which looked into where in the world you can find the most trustworthy garages, also found Quito in Equador to have the highest proportion of trusted mechanics.
With car repairs and maintenance an unavoidable part of car ownership, many car owners will have their favourite tried-and-tested garages, but unexpected breakdowns could leave them requiring assistance away from home and with unfamiliar businesses.
It can be hard to know whether a garage is offering a fair price for any work completed, so Scrap Car Comparison have analysed the reviews of car repair businesses in 155 cities worldwide, to reveal which have the most reviews indicating honesty and trustworthiness via an overall ‘Trustworthiness Score’.
Sunderland Is Most Trusted In UK
According to Scrap Car Comparison’s analysis, Sunderland is home to the most trustworthy mechanics in the UK, with an overall Trustworthiness Score of 54.6 out of a possible 100. With the global average score sitting at 43.6, and the UK average slightly higher at 45.4, Sunderland-based mechanics are performing significantly higher. Walsall follows in second with a score of 53.7, while Dundee ranks in third (52.3).
Overall, the UK top 10 spans just over five points in total, indicating that though Sunderland may be standing proud, the quality of work delivered to customers across the UK is likely to be of a similar level. As a result, drivers can rest assured that they’ll receive a high level of service even if they break down and require assistance from a mechanic outside their hometown. Interestingly, Portsmouth is the only city from the South to rank within the top 10 – suggesting overall higher levels of trust in mechanics in the North.
Scrap Car Comparison also looked at the UK cities with the least trusted car repair businesses, with Aberdeen taking the top spot with an overall Trustworthiness Score of 36.6. Oxford follows in second place with a score of 34.7, while Leicester places in third with 37.2 points.
Other central cities such as Milton Keynes (37.4) and Nottingham (40.3) also place in the bottom 10, though are only just below the national average Trustworthiness Score, suggesting that car owners visiting a garage in these areas are still likely to receive service of a good quality.
