A consultation aimed at understanding how upcoming budget choices might affect residents and help guide spending decisions has today been launched.
The 2026/27 Budget Consultation, run jointly by Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeen City Health and Social Care Partnership, will ask how potential changes to services could impact people living in Aberdeen, including looking at ways that services could be potentially funded in the future.
Councillor Alex McLellan, Convener of Finance and Resources Committee, said: “We want to ensure every resident has the opportunity to share their views on the services that matter most to them.
“Your feedback is vital to making informed decisions that reflect the needs and priorities of our communities.”
Aberdeen City Council Co-Leader Councillor Ian Yuill said: “This is the third year of running the Budget Consultation. The feedback each year has played a key part in formulating the Council budget in difficult times.
“I hope people will once again take part and have their say on how they believe the Council should allocate funds over the next year.”
Due to rising demands and costs, the Council is faced with changing, reducing or even stopping some services, and/or generating income from fees and charges, including Council Tax.
The consultation will run over one phase only this year, and aims to capture feedback on a wide range of areas, including:
- Communities;
- Citizen services;
- Culture and sport;
- Education;
- Roads, waste and environment;
- Health and social care;
- Council Tax.
A series of pop-up sessions will take place across the city, which residents can attend to access support in completing the consultation, and to find out more information.
Digital support can also be accessed at community centres, libraries or the Marischal College Customer Service Centre on Broad Street during normal working hours.
This is the third year that the Council has ran its Budget Consultation.
The consultation will be open until 14 December 2025, and the results will be used to help inform decisions taken by Councillors in setting spending plans at the annual Budget meeting next year.
