FIREFIGHTERS have been battling a fire in an Aberdeen city centre hotel. Crews were called to Stirling Street just before 9.40pm yesterday evening, with a heavy police presence in the area and the street cordoned off.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said last night: “We were called to Stirling Street at 9:29pm.
“We sent four appliances that remain at the scene.”
Phone video footage has shown flames coming from the top floor of the Carmelite Hotel, and it is believed the fire started inside one of the hotel rooms.
A resident at the Carmelite told the Press and Journal how he raised the alarm at the hotel after smelling smoke and spotting the fire from outside. Others have added that some of them will have to be moved out of the nearby rooms because the damage is “so bad.”
Firefighters entered the room where the blaze started via a crane around 11pm last night, where they were attempting to clear debris with a shovel at great height.
There are no reported casualties, and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
