JANUARY 27th marked the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Response Consultants, a local family business providing emergency response support, training and consultancy to the oil and gas, renewables, marine, printing, voluntary and other industries, in Aberdeen and internationally.
Founded in 1995, Mike Forbes set-up Response Consultants after working within the oil & gas industry and following the publication of Lord Cullen’s report into the Piper Alpha disaster. With a continual increase in business, Mikes’ daughter Claire joined the Company, initially on a part-time basis whilst studying at university. Upon graduation, Claire became a full-time member of staff and in the last 5 years assumed the role of Managing Director, allowing Mike to enjoy semi-retirement.

Founder, Mike Forbes remarked: “It was hard work in the first year to get the business established within the local oil & gas community but we succeeded and the first few years were exciting. Later, when the business continued to expand, we recruited more staff and moved from rented accommodation to our own office in 2002 and then in 2011, we moved to our current office in Holburn Street. It was also enjoyable seeing our reputation grow overseas and international business soon became a significant part of our turnover”.”
Managing Director, Claire Forbes believes that Response Consultants has remained one of the leading emergency response training providers because of the personal approach and flexibility it offers their clients, and the dedication and understanding its staff has towards emergency response. “Working with such a diverse range of companies and industries means that we understand all too well the challenges and risks our clients face. We have the experience, knowledge and flexibility to adapt our approaches in a number of ways, which makes it easier for our clients to implement their emergency response capabilities.”
Times have been challenging since the downturn in the oil and gas industry, but that has not stopped Response Consultants from exploring other areas and enhancing existing training for their staff, while providing their clients with the same excellent level of service. 2020 will be an exciting year for Response Consultants as they will be launching two new services, which will be available to new and existing clients in the coming months.
Claire remarked, “at Response Consultants, we plan to celebrate fully throughout 2020 and began the year with a small get together for staff, where presentations were made to long-serving staff members with more events and celebrations planned for the year ahead.
We wish to thank our clients, for their support and look forward to working with new and existing clients for another 25 years, continually embracing change and evolving as we have done in the previous years.”
