Kayla Sim, a business student from Robert Gordon University (RGU), recently completed a dynamic three-month internship with technology company DEV4 as part of the university’s Connect to Business programme.

The initiative gives students a valuable opportunity to gain real-world business experience while opening doors to future employment.

The timing of Kayla’s placement was ideal, aligning perfectly with DEV4’s acceptance onto the Grand Scale for Kickstart programme – an intensive marketing accelerator led by Grand Scale, Opportunity North East (ONE) and Scottish Enterprise. Over the three-month programme, selected companies with high-growth potential received expert guidance to refine and execute laser-focused marketing strategies.

Kayla played a central role in helping DEV4 develop a powerful campaign for its flagship product, Equi-Track – a cloud-based equipment management and tracking tool. Equi-Track is revolutionising how businesses that own and hire out tools manage their assets, offering greater efficiency, visibility, and accountability.

Through her time at DEV4, Kayla contributed to the creation of standout customer-facing content, including the introduction of TAG (Tracking & Asset Guardian) – a bold new avatar who will represent Equi-Track in future marketing efforts.

Reflecting on her internship, Kayla shared: “Being part of the DEV4 team gave me the confidence to share my ideas and truly feel like a contributor. I’ve learned so much about marketing in the real world – and the best part is seeing my ideas come to life, like the launch of TAG on Equi-Track’s LinkedIn page.”

DEV4’s leadership team praised Kayla’s creativity, initiative, and impact during the project, noting that her involvement helped bring fresh perspective and energy to the campaign.

The success of this collaboration highlights the value of integrating academic learning with practical business experience – a win for both the student and the company.
