The strong tradition of academic success continues at Robert Gordon’s College with the community celebrating excellent examination achievements and recognising the impact of the S6 experience leading to exciting future pathways.

In Languages, pupils achieved an average 90% A-B pass rate in French, German, Latin, Mandarin or Spanish, and, in the first year of us presenting pupils for National 5 PE, 97% of pupils achieved an A grade.
Building on their excellent 2023 results, over one third of S5 pupils achieved 5As. The A-B pass rate is 83% and A-C at 93.3%.
In the sciences, Higher Biology, Chemistry and Physics averaged a 90% A-B pass rate with Higher Mathematics seeing an impressive 91% A-B pass. Higher Music and Drama pupils achieved a fantastic average A-B pass rate of 94%.
The vast majority of pupils stay on for the sixth year experience at Robert Gordon’s, and the value of this shines through in their excellent results this year; 155 pupils sat Advanced Highers with 91.6% A-C and 72.2% A-B passes.
The impressive average number of Advanced Highers achieved per S6 pupil is 2.31; 24 pupils achieved three As and two achieved four As.
100% of Advanced Higher pupils achieved an A-C pass in a broad range of subjects, such as Accounting, Art and Design, Business Management, English, Geography, Latin, Computing Science, History and RMPS.
Mrs Clare Smith, Head of Senior School, shared: “As we celebrate an impressive year, I congratulate each and every one of our pupils on their hard work, commitment and achievements.
“Whether it is at the start of the examination years in S4 where pupils sit eight National 5s, to the final stage where the sixth year experience at Robert Gordon’s highlights exceptional national and international opportunities for pupils in a diverse range of future pathways.
“This year, our pupils have secured places on competitive courses at top universities, including English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford.
“The Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow have been popular choices with pupils applying for Psychology, Astrophysics, Law, Engineering, Spanish with Politics and Medicine. Scholarships in the USA continue to attract interest, along with UK courses that offer a year abroad.
“It has been fascinating to see pupils pursue their individual passions for a diverse range of courses, including Computing Science, Physical Education, Geography and Geosciences, International Business Management, Mathematics, Primary Education, Aeronautical Engineering, Architecture, and History.”
Lily Coates, S4 pupil, said: “I am very happy that I got straight As in the exams, I feel I worked very hard and it paid off.
“It was great to be given the opportunity to take National 5 PE, it was a really enjoyable part of my week and linked well to hockey and netball which I play regularly.
“I recently returned from a sports tour of South Africa, which was an amazing experience. I have enjoyed most of my subjects this year and look forward to sitting my Highers in fifth year.”
Mr Robin Macpherson, Head of College, highlighted: “A very large number of RGC pupils will be celebrating today and rightly so.
“Their hard work and dedication have paid off with some fantastic results, which are well above national averages at all levels.
“I’m particularly pleased for the National 5 cohort, as this was the year group that had their transition from P7 to S1 disrupted by COVID.
“Their journey hasn’t been easy, but they have absolutely triumphed this summer and we are delighted for them.
“We’re also immensely proud to see our class of 2024 leavers going on to fantastic destinations, and they leave RGC equipped with the skills and qualifications needed to tackle any challenge in the future.”
RGC Online, the live-taught virtual programme created by Robert Gordon’s College, saw 88.9% of its second cohort of students from across Scotland achieve A passes in Higher Computing Science.
Robin Macpherson added: “This follows on from the success of the initial cohort in 2023 and clearly demonstrates the success of direct online teaching for national qualifications.
“It is an exciting time for the programme expanding access for mature students and launching Higher Applications of Mathematics as part of the course options.”
