A still from the latest North East Bus Alliance video

WITH just under 20 shopping days left until Christmas, the North East Bus Alliance has enlisted the help of the big man himself, Santa Claus, to encourage shoppers to choose the bus.

Following the launch of its campaign to communicate the new bus priority measures and encourage people to make small changes to the way they get in and around town, the North East Bus Alliance has pulled in extra star power with the world’s most famous Christmas shopper, making an appearance in the video, which was inspired by the likes of big brands John Lewis, Marks & Spencer and Amazon – who have all released seasonal commercials.

With bus journey times being reduced by 25% as a direct result of the bus gates, the film follows Santa taking the bus into the city centre for quicker, stress-free and greener shopping this Christmas.

According to the North East Bus Alliance, more people taking the bus more often will lead to even more improvements to public transport and to further reducing congestion and pollution in the city centre.

The bus priority measures are the first steps towards longer-term transport solutions, including Aberdeen Rapid Transit, that will help in the fight against climate change and support the wider ambitions for a more attractive and vibrant city through the city centre masterplan.

Rab Dickson, director of Nestrans, on behalf of the North East Bus Alliance explained: “With fewer buses now being held up unnecessarily in city centre traffic, thanks to the bus priority measures, bus journey times are quicker and more predictable. This means that Christmas shoppers have more reasons to switch from the car in favour of the bus this festive season.”

The video, which will be shared across social media and available to view at www.getabout.org.uk, shows Santa Claus planning his morning trip into the city centre, before catching a bus and heading to the bright lights of Aberdeen’s main shopping thoroughfares to select his gifts.
