The two companies began their fundraising efforts during participation in the 2014 Corporate Pentathlon and chose to support Befriend a Child as they greatly valued the work they were doing with children around the Aberdeen area.

Showing true bravery by enduring two body waxes, John Walker, Director of J2 Subsea and Seatronics’ engineer, Brian Milne, managed to raise a fantastic £1092.78 for the charity. The companies then went on to raise another £1770 at their Christmas party which was also attended by Norwegian company, RTS, totaling £2862.78 for the year.

Befriend a Child works to support Aberdeen’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged children by providing a 1:1 befriending service, whereby youngsters who are referred to the service are matched with an adult role model and offered a few hours of befriending each month to increase self-esteem and confidence, introduce them to new interests and offer some much needed fun away from their difficult backgrounds. Many of the children referred could benefit from a positive male role model and some are even placed on a waiting list until they find an appropriate match.

Development and Resources Manager, Lana Bambridge, said, “The funds raised from the Seatronics & J2 Subsea activities not only help us continue to grow and improve our services, but are also fun and engaging ways to raise awareness in the community.”

Seatronics & J2 Subsea are both Acteon companies.
