A vital section of Aberdeen’s Coast Road in the Altens area is scheduled for a temporary closure spanning one week to facilitate the installation of a new sewer system. The closure, confirmed by Aberdeen City Council, is set to commence next Monday, and will impact traffic navigating the southern approach to the city.

The affected stretch of road will be inaccessible from 7am on Monday, May 25, until 5pm on Monday, June 1. This strategic route connects various industrial and commercial operations within the Altens industrial estate, a key business hub situated south of Aberdeen city centre. The specific closure point extends from the junction with Hareness Road southward to the entrance of the former Doonies Rare Breeds Farm.

The necessary infrastructure work is being carried out by CHAP Construction, a prominent Scottish construction company with a substantial history in the North East of Scotland. The project involves installing a new sewer to serve a forthcoming development in the vicinity.

Aberdeen City Council has provided comprehensive details regarding the temporary traffic management plan. An official statement from the local authority outlines the scope of the works and the alternative routes for motorists.

The statement reads: “Due to CHAP Construction installing a sewer to a new site, a southern section of the Coast Road at Altens is to be CLOSED for a week. The closure will be from the junction with Hareness Road to the entrance for the former Doonies Rare Breeds Farm. It will be from 7am on 25 May, 2026 until 5pm on 1 June, 2026. An alternative route is via Hareness Road, Wellington Road, Balnagask Road, and St Fittick’s Road.”

This diversion route aims to mitigate disruption for commuters and businesses operating within the Altens and wider Aberdeen areas. Drivers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow for additional travel time during the period of the closure.

The installation of new sewer infrastructure is a critical component of urban development, ensuring adequate waste management for new sites and contributing to the overall public health and environmental standards of the area.

Motorists are encouraged to consult local traffic updates for any further information regarding the works on Coast Road. The council’s proactive communication seeks to minimise inconvenience during this essential infrastructure upgrade.
