MOTORISTS in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are urged to refrain from unnecessary travel due to an unusual red weather warning in effect.

The Met Office has raised its weather warning level to red for wind in certain areas of Aberdeenshire, where flooding is anticipated.

This red warning encompasses portions of southern Aberdeenshire, including locations like Stonehaven and Inverbervie, extending into Angus.

The Met Office warns of a significant risk to life due to rapidly flowing or deep floodwaters, which are expected to affect homes and businesses.

The red alert is in effect from 6 p.m. today (Thursday) until noon on Friday. Meanwhile, Aberdeen and other parts of Aberdeenshire are under amber and yellow warnings for both wind and rain, lasting until Saturday morning.

Travel Disruptions

All train services departing from Aberdeen have been canceled for Thursday and Friday. Inspections will occur on Saturday, and some lines may reopen with speed restrictions.

The guidance from the police and Transport Scotland is unequivocal: avoid travel unless absolutely essential.

Transport Scotland further advises individuals in South Aberdeenshire to refrain from traveling altogether during Thursday evening and midday on Friday due to the red weather warning.
