SHELL’S return to Union Street in Aberdeen has been marked with a special ceremony.
The energy giant has moved its Aberdeen operation to The Silver Fin Building to provide staff with a modern workplace, fit for the future.
The move has been widely welcomed by city centre chiefs, who say it will increase footfall to the many retailers, cafes, restaurants and businesses in the area and act as a catalyst for further generation of the West End of Union Street.
Shell’s North Sea boss Simon Roddy welcomed local business leaders to the new office for an opening ceremony, and said it was the start of an exciting new chapter for the company in the North-east.
“We are delighted to be returning to our roots in the city centre with the completion of our move into the Silver Fin Building,” he said.
“The feedback from our workforce is really positive and it is great to see the impact we are starting to have on neighbouring businesses.
“Our history in the Granite City is a rich one, and it’s great to be starting this exciting next chapter”
Shell’s first office opened in Union Street in 1965 and in 2018 it marked 50 years of production in the North Sea.
The company said the Silver Fin move demonstrated its “continued partnership with the city and the region”, as well as its commitment to the communities and businesses here.
