A local ladies’ singing group is inviting budding singers to come along and meet its new musical director.

Albacappella, which rehearses in Garlogie Hall, Garlogie, has recently welcomed Sarah Estill as its new musical director. The 30-strong ladies’ harmony chorus is holding open evenings once per month to allow potential new members to share their joy of singing.

Sarah is a renowned soloist, singing coach, and director from Yorkshire who relocated to Aberdeenshire in 2021. An award-winning soprano, Sarah has worked with many leading operatic companies such as English National Opera, Opera North, and Scottish Opera.

Her performing career includes an extensive repertoire of opera, musical theatre, as well as popular and lighter music. She was a featured classical artist on the QE2 cruise ship and in 2007 sang for HRH Queen Elizabeth II.

Sarah has made many radio broadcasts and several TV appearances, including a feature on an Al Murray historical documentary singing Wagner in 2021 and appearing on the BBC’s “The One Show”, where she shattered a glass with her voice.

Sarah now lives on a smallholding in rural Aberdeenshire with her husband and many animals, including dogs, cats, goats, sheep, and chickens.

Having joined Albacappella in July, Sarah is enjoying the group’s extensive repertoire, which includes modern pop songs as well as traditional Scottish folk music.

She said: “I’m delighted to have joined Albacappella, and we are already enjoying making some wonderful music together.

“I am looking forward to taking this talented choir in a new and exciting direction, which we hope to showcase to audiences across Aberdeenshire in the near future.”

Albacappella is keen to grow its membership and will be holding open evenings on the last Wednesday of every month, commencing Wednesday 25 September, at 7 pm.

Sarah encourages budding singers to come along, listen, and join in where they can. She adds,
“There is no obligation to join in, simply come and watch and decide if you would like to be a part of making wonderful music.”
