SMOKE and Soul, the award-winning BBQ restaurant and event catering company in Aberdeen, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to refurbish the former Six Degrees North bar and give it a new lease of life, in an attempt to save the venue from closure and encourage people back into the city centre.

The campaign, which aims to raise £50,000, will help Smoke and Soul to transform the spacious venue into a cosy and welcoming place where customers can enjoy their signature slow smoked meats and hearty comfort food, along with an impressive range of craft beers and spirits. With the funds raised from the campaign, Smoke and Soul plans to give the venue a makeover that will enhance its charm and character. The project includes replacing the halogen lighting throughout, improving the heating system, upholstering the seating and refurbishing the toilets ; whilst bringing in more plants, and applying a fresh colour scheme to achieve an outside-inside charm they have already mastered at their Smokehouse in Bridge of Don. The goal is to create a warm and inviting atmosphere that reflects their brand identity and values, whilst focusing on the feedback they have received from their regulars on ways to improve the space.

Smoke and Soul, founded by Corey Milne and Lindsay Jackson in 2017, has been serving delicious BBQ comfort food across a varied menu at their kitchen residency in Six Degrees North on Littlejohn Street since 2019, as well as delivering to homes via Deliveroo and hosting exclusive pop-up events at their Smokehouse, a historic blacksmiths they converted into a production kitchen and intimate food and drink venue. At the beginning of March 2023, they made the leap of faith to take over the entire venue and existing bar team from Six Degrees North, who decided to close the bar operation post-pandemic.

Lindsay Jackson, co-owner of Smoke and Soul, said: “We are so excited to launch this crowdfunding campaign and invite our loyal customers and supporters to join us on this journey. We have been

dreaming of expanding our business and creating a bigger and better venue where we can showcase our passion for casual wood-fired comfort food and offer a unique food and drink experience in Aberdeen. The refurbished venue, which we will be renaming ‘The Firepit’, will reflect our back-garden roots & love for simple outdoor living, whilst offering a fresh concept for our customers, contributing to the wider objective of bringing people back into our city centre and further supporting the hospitality and tourism industry within Aberdeen.

Corey Milne, said: “We have been humbled by the feedback and reviews we have received over the years, and we want to reward our supporters with some fantastic perks and incentives. Depending on the level of investment, our backers will receive extra credit to spend in the bar, Deliveroo vouchers, and entry for a chance to win our a seasonal smokehouse investor pass for two, worth £360, for exclusive events at our recently launched Smokehouse. We hope that everyone who loves our food will support us, and help us make this dream a reality.”
