“As the newly appointed SNP spokesperson on DEFRA, I am rapidly getting up to speed on matters of concern to the farming, fishing and energy sectors.

“I am therefore very conscious of the farming industry’s call for clarity in the funding process and of their need for multi-annual funding.

“The SNP Group at Westminster is pressing for increased funding for the sector and will be looking to the new Government to deliver on verbal assurances they have given.”

Speaking on the matter of the shortage of seasonal workers, Seamus Logan said:

“There is a great deal of adverse talk about immigration on the news right now.

“However, it is obvious that special arrangements need to be put in place to ensure that our the agriculture sector – and other industries – can continue to get access to the seasonal labour that they require to get their produce to the marketplace.”

Talking after the meeting, Seamus Logan commented:

“I am very hopeful that we might look forward to a more constructive dialogue with the new Labour Government than we have been able to have with the Conservative Government over the last fourteen years.

“I will certainly be looking for them to honour their promises to our farmers.
