Fitness enthusiasts across the North-east are set to gather in Banchory’s Burnett Park this Saturday, 27th September, for Granite Grit, a one-of-a-kind charity event offering a taster of some of the world’s most popular functional fitness challenges in a welcoming, non-competitive setting.

Organised by a team of local fitness lovers, including Granite Grit director, Kerry Davies, Hyrox enthusiast Natalie Wright and ultra-runner and fitness coach, Chloe Robertson.

The day promises to bring the energy of functional fitness to the great outdoors. Instead of racing for podium positions, participants will focus on fun, community, and raising funds for Play for All, a charity aiming to make Bellfield Playpark inclusive for all and Grampian Disability Sport, which develops sport for people with physical, sensory or learning disability in Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray.

The event will include a combination of running and functional fitness movements which can be adapted to suit all abilities. Stations will be set up around the park, allowing attendees to work through the challenges which include press ups, jump squats, and burpee broad jumps, at their own pace, enjoy the camaraderie, and soak in the summer atmosphere.

“This event is about breaking down barriers to fitness,” said ultra runner and co-organiser of Granite Grit, Choe Robertson. “Functional fitness events like Hyrox, Spartan and CrossFit can be intense and slightly intimidating if you’re new to them, but we’ve stripped away the pressure, kept the fun, and added the fresh air. It’s about getting moving, feeling good, and doing something positive for our community.”

All 165 spots sold out, even after extra spaces were released. Organisers expect the combination of fresh-air, fitness, and a shared sense of purpose to make this a highlight of Aberdeenshire’s summer fitness event calendar for years to come.

Co-organiser, Kerry Davies, said:

“Raising money for our chosen local charities through bringing people together in sport is something we are really proud to help support, and we look forward to giving more people these opportunities at future events.”

Sponsors of the inaugural event include Sangster & Co, Muscle Reflexology, Safety Grip Solutions, Knight Fit and Grace May.  Nick Sangster, director of Sangster and Co, Event Gold Sponsor, said:

“We are proud to sponsor the inaugural Granite Grit hybrid event, right here in our community, bringing people together in a way we have never seen before for two great causes. The event marks an exciting milestone for local sport and fitness.

“As a business rooted in the community, we are committed to backing initiatives that promote health, wellbeing and positive impact and look forward to seeing the energy and spirit it brings to Banchory.”
