PEOPLE in Aberdeen turned out to show their support for the city’s Armed Forces Day parade today (Saturday 01 July).
The parade, which began at 11am at Albyn Place saw more than 1,000 serving, veteran and cadet force personnel accompanied by massed pipes and drums and vintage military vehicles make their way along Union Street.

As the parade passed the Town House, the Lord Provost of Aberdeen Dr David Cameron, in his role of His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant, took the salute alongside representatives of the Armed Forces.
The Lord-Lieutenant’s cadets Sergeant Amber Yule, Robert Gordon’s College Combined Cadet Force and Sergeant Magnus Lawson, Albyn School Combined Cadet Force, were also in attendance.
The Lord-Lieutenant of Aberdeen Dr David Cameron said: “It was wonderful to see so many people of all ages, line Union Street to show their support for everyone taking part in Aberdeen’s Armed Forces Day parade.
“The waving of our very own Aberdeen Armed Forces Day handheld flags, around 2,000 were handed out to spectators, looked great as the Armed Forces, past and present, made their way along Union Street to the magnificent sound of the massed pipes and drums.
“This annual event is a wonderful opportunity for spectators from every generation to pay tribute to, and thank, our serving Armed Forces, veterans and cadets.”
The official Armed Forces Day flag will continue to be flown from the city’s official flagpole outside Marischal College, Board Street until Monday 03 July 2023, as a mark of respect to all UK Armed Forces.
