Rents are rising nationwide, but Aberdeen is one of the most affordable cities in the country for median earners.
In a new study, Resume.io/uk found that 63.27% of properties are affordable for Aberdeen locals – ranking first among all UK cities.
This research ranked major UK cities and London boroughs by the percentage of rental properties affordable to those on the median local salary. Using ONS and Rightmove data, affordability was defined as rent costing no more than 30% of gross income.

Aberdeen has also been identified as the most budget-friendly city in the UK for homebuyers.
According to a recent study by HCB Solicitors which looked at housing affordability across the UK, Aberdeen took the lead with an average property cost of £137,000.

As reported by the Zoopla house pricing index, the average property price in the UK currently sits at £267,500, which represents an almost 2% rise over the past year. In this context, it indicates that Aberdeen is an impressive £130,500 below the national average.
Following Aberdeen, Glasgow is recognised as the second most affordable city in the UK, with an average property price of £153,000.
