AFBE-UK Scotland, an organisation that encourages greater diversity and inclusion in the energy and engineering sectors, has announced Subsea 7 as a partner.
Aberdeen-based AFBE-UK Scotland supports all young people, particularly those from black and minority ethnic (BME) backgrounds, with career aspirations in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Subsea 7 is the latest company to join AFBE-UK, a platform for sharing ideas and supporting diversity and inclusion strategies. Other partners to sign up recently include the RAF, SSE and the Mercedes F1 team.

Dr Ollie Folayan, chair of AFBE-UK Scotland, said: “We are thrilled to have Subsea 7 onboard. Subsea 7 is committed to developing a strong diversity and inclusion strategy and we are looking forward to working with them on this.
“We held two lunch and learn sessions at Subsea 7’s offices in London and Westhill and were impressed by the level of engagement of from employees on the subject of ethnic diversity. We hope to build on this in the coming months.”

AFBE-UK Scotland has supported thousands of young people since it first launched in 2011. The organisation is part of AFBE-UK, which is based in London.
AFBE-UK Scotland provides mentoring programmes to support young people with their STEM careers. This includes its schools programme NextGen, where industry leaders and professionals give advice to pupils through entertaining events; Transition, where industry leaders help aspiring engineering professionals to enter the job market; and Real Projects, where industry professionals share their knowledge and expertise.
These programmes were usually carried out in person, however, they are currently taking place online. AFBE-UK is due to hold its diversity and inclusion awards event in October in Aberdeen.
