More than 3,000 Primary 4 pupils from every Aberdeen City Council primary school will come together at Duthie Park later this month to take part in Aberdeen Big Sing and Play 2026, a major celebration of music, creativity and togetherness.

This popular schools’ event brings children together to celebrate singing and live music-making, including for the first time performances alongside musicians from the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Aberdeen City Council’s Music Service.

The event will begin at 11am and finish at 12pm on Wednesday 27 May.

Aberdeen City Council’s Music Service has worked in partnership with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Charanga to support the delivery of Big Sing and Play 2026. Teaching and learning time in schools has been supported by the Scottish Government’s Youth Music Initiative through Creative Scotland.

The following temporary road closures and traffic restrictions will be in place on Wednesday 27 May to support the safe delivery of the event at Duthie Park:

Road closure (9am-2pm)

  • Great Southern Road, between its junctions with Riverside Drive and Whinhill Road

An alternative route will be available via Riverside Drive, Riverside Place and Holburn Street.

No Waiting restrictions (9am-2pm)

  • Great Southern Road (both sides), Whinhill Roundabout to Riverside Drive
  • Polmuir Road (south side), Polmuir Gardens to house number 72
  • Murray Terrace (south side), Polmuir Road to house number 13
  • Riverside Drive (both sides), Great Southern Road to Riverside Terrace

Drivers and residents are advised to plan ahead and follow all temporary traffic management signage while restrictions are in place.

Parents and carers of participating pupils are encouraged to walk, use public transport or car share where possible.

For those travelling by car, parking is available in the Duthie Park car parks or along Riverside Drive.

Please note that the car parks in Duthie Park are expected to be full during the event.
