Aberdeen's P&J Live will host the Offshore Energy UK 2022 conference

FOR the first time in eighteen months, live events will return to P&J Live this week, with the entertainment, exhibitions, meetings, conferencing and banqueting venue having been granted an exemption to the maximum indoor event capacity of 2,000 by Aberdeen City Council.

Today, we welcome Floating Offshore Wind, running over two days, organised by RenewableUK and Scottish Renewables, the long-awaited first in-person / hybrid event to take place at the state-of-the-art venue. In quick succession, the team at P&J Live will prepare for one of its largest ever conferences, The British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) Annual Conference from 21st to 24th September, which has sole occupancy of the entire venue and is expected to attract approx. 1,900 delegates from across the UK. BOA received exemption by the Scottish Government as a Gateway Status event.

These conferences are a sign of things to come, with the venue having secured a portfolio of new conference and association business event wins for 2022 & 2023. Highlights from the range of confirmed events include the Association of Surgeons in Training Annual Congress 2022, British Society of Prosthodontics Annual Conference 2022, the Association for the Study of Medical Education Annual Scholarship Meeting 2022, the Alzheimer’s Research UK Annual Research Conference 2023, the Energy Geoscience Conference 2023 and the British Gynaecological Cancer Society Annual Meeting 2023, attracting a combined total of 7,750 delegates to the region.

Australian comedian, Tim Minchin, will be the much-anticipated first entertainment act to grace the stage on October 16th giving fans from across Scotland a well over due giggle.

In line with Scottish Government guidance, the venue will continue to deliver its industry-leading set of COVID-safe protocols, known as VenueShield, to instil confidence and make visiting safer for everyone as live music and entertainment events take to the stage. This is a six-point strategy that includes enhanced cleaning throughout the venue prior to and post event, with a concentration on high touch-point areas.

Ticketholders may be advised to take a rapid lateral flow test before attending and will be asked to wear face coverings when inside the venue, unless eating, drinking or dancing (unless exempt). They should not attend if they are displaying any symptoms of COVID-19, have tested positive or have been asked to self-isolate. For some events, attendees may be asked to show vaccination status to gain entry, full guidance can be found on the P&J Live website.

Nick Waight, Managing Director at P&J Live says: “We could not be more excited to return to live entertainment and in-person business events at P&J Live and once again see the state-of-the-art venue be utilised for its intended purpose.

“We are extremely proud of how far we’ve come, with the majority of our team having taken the voluntary decision to provide visitor support during the mass vaccination centre’s operation, but I know more than anything, they can’t wait to get back to delivering these amazing experiences to the people of the North East and hear the roar of the crowds return to P&J Live.

“All we ask is that attendees be responsible and considerate to others while at the venue. We all want to make sure the return to live events is enjoyable for all. We have so many exciting new announcements waiting in the pipeline – the people of the North East of Scotland are in for a treat, with big names and large conferences lined up well into 2022 and 2023.”

Other acts lined up for the remainder of 2021 include Battle of the Brits – England Vs. Scotland live tennis with Andy & Jamie Murray, STEPS, Deacon Blue, Gary Barlow, Madness, Elton John, Ball & Boe, Chris & Rosie Ramsey, The Drifters and Bill Bailey.
