A WEDDING industry awards event aimed solely at the North of Scotland has proved a massive hit with both the industry and the brides and grooms who married during 2022.

The fifth ‘Top Tier Awards’ gala dinner took place last weekend at Union Kirk, Aberdeen. Over 250 wedding industry professionals attended the event where the winners in 20 categories were crowned. The awards are decided strictly by the brides and grooms who used the services of the suppliers and venues for their big day. Couples who were married during 2022 had the option to vote for their THREE top suppliers allocating gold, silver and bronze votes.

The organizers received a record number of votes partly due to the massive number of weddings that took place last year as we all recovered from Covid. From the thousands of votes received  a short list of 100 finalists were announced in early January. Places for the awards dinner then went on sale and the organizers were amazed that the event sold out in only four days! The award winners were then announced at the gala awards dinner.

The awards are hosted and sponsored by Aberdeen based entertainment, exhibition and events company Elite Promotions. John Anderson a partner with Elite said “We were one of many North of Scotland wedding suppliers who always thought we had such a high number of top level suppliers and venues to merit a regional wedding awards scheme of our own. From the day we first announced the awards was to take place in 2017 we have had fantastic and positive support from the industry. For a wedding to be a success lots of suppliers including multi national venues and small local independent suppliers need to work together. They all add their individual skills to achieve the desired result.  These awards recognize the hard work and creativity of those who went the extra mile to ensure a happy and memorable wedding day. Every single vote received is a recommendation from the people who matter most at a wedding and it is also the perfect way for brides and grooms to thank those they felt were the top performers. The awards are obviously growing in popularity and we are already looking at options for next year to ensure its continued success. ”

Each year one lucky couple who voted receive a £500 holiday voucher and this year the winners were Morven and Andrew McDonald who were married at Norwood Hall on 27th August 2022.

A Special Recognition Award was made on the night to Suki Hudson of Hudsons Catering. Suki fought for industry funding during Covid and lobbied local councillors, government officials and Westminster MP’s as the industry was one of the most affected during lockdown.
