The Wood Foundation, a venture philanthropic organisation focused on empowering communities, advancing education and fostering enterprise in Scotland, has today announced the appointment of Sarah Chew as the Foundation’s new UK Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Bringing more than two decades of experience in Scotland’s charity sector to the role, Sarah has led impactful change throughout her career. During her 15-year tenure as Managing Director at Aberdeen’s TechFest, she was recognised as the driving force behind its transformation into an international success.

A local to the North East, Sarah also serves as a Board Member for both ACVO (Aberdeen Council of Voluntary Organisations) and DYW (Developing Young Workforce) North East.

Sarah said: “It is a privilege to take on the role of the UK CEO of The Wood Foundation. I have long been inspired by the impactful work of the organisation in Aberdeen and across Scotland. I am excited to build on its legacy and champion innovative approaches that create meaningful and sustainable change.”

Commenting on the appointment, Garreth Wood, Chairman of The Wood Foundation, said: “Sarah brings a wealth of experience, insight, and fresh perspectives which I know will complement and enhance the exceptional skills and dedication already within The Wood Foundation team.

“I am confident that she will provide strong leadership, working closely with the Board of Trustees to deliver on our strategy and further strengthen the Foundation’s impact across Scotland.”

The Wood Foundation is a committed and connected partner in education, having engaged hundreds of schools in its innovative programmes, including its flagship UK investment the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI), since the Foundation was established by Sir Ian Wood and his family in 2007.

The Wood Foundation has also committed £64 million over 10 years to support Opportunity North East (ONE) and is also a backer of the Energy Transition Zone (ETZ).
