Aberdeenshire-based oil service company ThinJack Ltd is to significantly expand its presence in a key overseas market.
The company plans to grow its foothold in the Malaysian market where it recently separated a tree cap flange, fused on to the top of a gas condensate well, after thirty years of production. Building on this success, ThinJack Ltd has formed a strategic alliance with MKI Engineering Services (Sarawak) Sdn. Bhd, founded in 2015. Previously, ThinJack Ltd had worked off the East coast of peninsular Malaysia in 2011.

MKI Engineering Services (Sarawak) Sdn. Bhd. are technical specialists in the service and maintenance of valves, instrumentation, wellheads and Christmas trees and various scopes related to Malaysia’s upstream, midstream, and downstream industries. Headquartered in Bintulu, with a branch office in Miri, MKI reaches into various prime locations in which some of the country’s key hydrocarbon prospects are produced and maintained. MKI was recently awarded a service and maintenance contract award by the national petroleum oil company PETRONAS.
The Bumiputera-owned company will represent ThinJack in Malaysia, with equipment to be shipped from Scotland for deployment as and when required.
The alliance was celebrated recently when the two organisations exhibited together at OGA 2017 in Kuala Lumpur where good levels of enquiries were forthcoming from potential customers in Malaysia.
Commenting on the relationship between the two companies, ThinJack Ltd Managing Director Guy Bromby said: “Malaysia has new oil and gas developments and also tail-end production and EOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery). It is the late life and EOR oil field enhancements which generally use ThinJack services and we see good potential for our services here.
“MKI already supply the end customers and, critically, have bases in East and West Malaysia. We have a shared ethos, believing that marrying our services with MKI’s local and regional expertise is an exciting prospect which will further enhance ThinJack Ltd’s global footprint. MKI are a registered Petronas Licensed vendor, including for the SWEC code which covers ThinJack’s services.”
Mike Lee, General Manager of MKI Engineering, commented: “Our strength is the delivery of high quality services to all of Malaysia’s key oil and gas and industrial locations. We appreciate working with ThinJack Ltd, from Australia and Scotland, and look forward to our customers with rig less separation of seized well flanges.”
