Aberdeen’s long-running literary magazine Pushing Out the Boat is set to celebrate a major milestone with the launch of its 25th anniversary anthology, Tides in Time, at Cowdray Hall on Sunday 3 May.
Bringing together a curated selection of art, poetry and prose from 100 contributors, the anthology showcases work published in the magazine over the past quarter-century, highlighting both North-east talent and voices from across the globe.
The launch event will feature live readings from contributors spanning back to the magazine’s beginnings in 2000, alongside a visual art display that reflects the publication’s creative breadth. Guest speaker Shane Strachan – writer, performer and former Scots Scriever – will also deliver an address celebrating the magazine’s legacy.
Editor Peter Burnett described the process of compiling the anthology as both rewarding and reflective. “It’s been a revelation looking back at 25 years of great writing and art from the magazine’s archives,” he said. “So much to choose from for the anthology, not only from the North-east but from contributors across the world.”
Strachan, who has longstanding ties to the publication, praised the community behind it. “This event marks a milestone for Pushing Out the Boat, a fantastic group of volunteers I am proud to have worked alongside over the years,” he said. “It will be a pleasure to bring together talent spanning across generations.”
The anthology has been supported by a grant from Aberdeen City Council’s Culture Investment Programme, underlining the publication’s cultural contribution to the region. Lord Provost David Cameron previously showed his support by attending the launch of the magazine’s most recent issue.
