Works to resurface the busy A90 AWPR commenced at 8pm on Sunday 24 August, with a convoy system in place to manage traffic during overnight hours. The convoy and lane restrictions will last for the week, aiming to minimise disruption for motorists while essential maintenance is carried out on this key trunk route.

The surfacing refurbishment is scheduled to finish by 6am Sunday, August 31.

To allow crews to carry out the improvements safely, an overnight convoy system will be in operation each night, restricting the flow of vehicles and enforcing lane closures.

“The A90 AWPR trunk road will have an overnight convoy system in operation to allow surfacing refurbishment works to take place,” an official statement confirmed.

Impact on Local Travel

During the convoy hours (typically 7.30pm to 6.30am), drivers can expect delays of up to three minutes per journey. Local traffic needing access to side roads will be diverted, with the B974 route suggested during working hours, which may add roughly nine minutes to some local journeys.

The minor road on the southbound carriageway will be closed during the convoy, but all traffic management will be removed by 6.30am each morning, ensuring daytime travel remains largely unaffected.

“The resurfacing will benefit more than 9,900 vehicles who use this route each day, creating a smoother ride for motorists and reducing the need for ongoing maintenance,” said an Amey spokesperson.

The scheduled works will last a total of seven nights, but as with all roadworks, the programme is subject to weather and may be rescheduled if conditions are not suitable. Drivers are advised to check live travel updates for any changes.
