DONALD Trump’s Aberdeenshire golf club has reaffirmed its “unwavering commitment” to investing in Scottish golf, despite recent financial reports showing mounting losses. Trump International Scotland, which operates the links course, boutique hotel, bar, and restaurant on the Menie Estate, reported a pre-tax loss of £1.4 million in 2023, nearly double the previous year’s deficit.

It was recently announced that e Trump International Scotland, located in Aberdeenshire, is nearing completion of a second major golf championship course. This course is set to open its doors in the summer of 2025 and is looking to organise additional competitions after the recent success of the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship, which took place over the summer.

Last week, Trump International Scotland released its yearly financial statements for the year-end of December 2023. These documents showed a rise in total sales to £3.7 million, a profit before taxes of £871,000, and a net loss of £1.4 million following the costs of running the business.

Executive Vice President Sarah Malone emphasised that the Trump family remains dedicated to their vision for the property, stating that they are in the process of creating “the greatest 36 holes in golf”.

She said: “Anyone with an interest in golf business knows only too well creating such a resort is a multi-phased, long-term investment project.

“The financial statements reflect the fact substantial investment is being made on an ongoing basis. This includes expenditure across all our operations and the investment we are making in hosting tournaments on an annual basis.

“From the outset this development was driven by the Trump family’s love of Scotland and their great love of golf.

“The Trump Organisation’s dedication to this property and its investment in golf in Scotland – and by extension the Scottish economy – remains unwavering and has not faltered at any stage. Such a commitment is something that should be celebrated.

“This investment – at the family’s own expense – has been a key factor in ensuring that the North-east of Scotland is on the world golf map.

“Furthermore, Trump International Scotland has in the last year secured coveted golf rankings including top 10 and top 100 rankings.”

The Trump Organisation’s strategy involves a multi-phased, long-term investment project. This includes developing a second world-class championship links course, expanding resort facilities and accommodation and continuing to host major golf tournaments

Ms. Malone stressed that establishing a new world-class championship golf destination requires considerable upfront and ongoing investment, asserting that “no other developer is more committed than Trump”.
