Plans have been submitted to Aberdeenshire Council to build over parts of north-east sand dunes with a “halfway house” kiosk. A halfway house is typically placed at the intersection of two golf courses.

The new facility would provide golfers with a designated area for a toilet break during games at the Menie Estate.

The shed-like structure is already under construction in the area of the recently approved new course.

Etch architects commented: “The applicants have a comprehensive and detailed knowledge of the requirements for such a halfway house and the expectations of a guest to the property.

“A strict requirement of the brief is to keep the halfway house compact and economical in its scale, in order to limit any visual impact on the surrounding landscape.

“Aesthetically there is a desire to create something with a sense of heritage and traditional in its appearance, which feels appropriate in the wider context.”

Donald Trump’s golf estate is unveiling its plans for the halfway house just as the controversial businessman attempts to secure a second term in the White House.

Although he relinquished management of his Scottish golf venues to his sons in 2017, Trump has kept a financial stake. Recent reports of record losses – a pre-tax loss of £1.4 million in 2023, and a £740,000 deficit in 2022 – have been dismissed by the organisation who reaffirmed its “unwavering commitment” to the area.
