Two Aberdeen bus gates have been suspended for a week to allow emergency water works in the city centre.
Effective from April 30, Scottish Water have initiated emergency repair works on a section of Market Street. This has led to the closure of Market Street’s northbound traffic between Poynernook Road and North Esplanade West.
Additionally, the northbound carriageway of North Esplanade West, from its junctions with Stell Road to Market Street, is also closed to facilitate the ongoing works. These closures are anticipated to last between seven and ten days.
In response to the resulting traffic restrictions, Aberdeen City Council has temporarily lifted certain bus gate regulations to provide motorists with alternative routes. The bus gate heading east on Guild Street has been suspended, allowing vehicles to traverse the city centre via South College Street onto Guild Street. From Guild Street, drivers can proceed across to Trinity Quay or turn right to travel southbound on Market Street.

The bus gate on Bridge Street has also been suspended. This adjustment permits northbound travel onto Union Street and Union Terrace, offering another modified route for motorists.
However, the bus gates situated west between Trinity Quay and Guild Street remain operational, as southbound traffic flow on Market Street is unaffected by the current works.
To further aid traffic management during this period, the one-way system previously in place on Palmerston Road will be temporarily lifted. This measure aims to enhance overall traffic flow in the affected areas.
