Fashion retailer Quiz is set to exit Aberdeen, as its city centre location prepares for closure.

The firm entered administration earlier this month, putting hundreds of jobs in jeopardy. Its store within Bon Accord’s St Nicholas Centre is soon to vanish, with a liquidation sale currently in progress.

Notices displayed in the shopfront indicate “store closing,” offering discounts of up to 50% on all merchandise to facilitate clearing inventory. The retailer relocated to the centre in 2025 after shutting its store in Union Square. A notice has been posted on the shop window providing details on returns and refunds. Items purchased on or after February 5 can be treated as “sold as seen,” with returns only accepted if deemed faulty. Also, any purchases made prior to February 5 can be exchanged for a comparable item priced at the same value or lower than the original purchase.

While the stores will remain open for now, the retailer has halted online services and stated it can no longer process orders placed through its website.

Customers who have returned items bought online but have not received a refund will not be compensated and are advised to reach out to their credit or debit card provider for assistance.

Meanwhile, in another setback for Aberdeen city centre, outdoor retailer Millets has closed its branch on Union Street. In September, the unit at 157 Union Street was made available for rent by property agents Graham and Sibbald.

At that time, employees expressed disbelief that the store would shut down, but now the space is vacant, with all Millets signage removed.

The three-story, 2,450sq ft unit was listed at an annual rate of £40,000. In September, it was promoted as available “now” under a flexible lease agreement spanning one to ten years. Situated beneath Travelodge Aberdeen Central, its neighbouring businesses include Greggs and HMV.

Millets, which is part of parent company JD Sports, has operated on Union Street for the last ten years. JD Sports itself closed its Union Street location last year, having been on the Granite Mile since 2019.

New occupants of 157 Union Street may be eligible for a grant of up to £35,000 for shop refurbishment from the Union Street Empty Shops Grant Scheme.

Earlier this month, a survey revealed that 24% of the ground-floor premises on the street are currently vacant. Conducted by FG Burnett, director Richard Noble stated that businesses have “borne the brunt” of the city council’s initiatives to revitalise the area. Moreover, businesses have encountered difficulties due to bus gates and the low emission zone (LEZ).

Millets and Quiz have been approached by the local press for comments.
