THE University of Aberdeen is once again offering a 20 percent discount on postgraduate study as it aims to support local people and businesses in responding to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The second phase of the regional discount scheme – known as the University of Aberdeen Community Discount – is open to all residents of Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray, who plan to apply, or who have applied already, to on-campus and online programmes with a September 2021 or January 2022 start date.

Almost all the University’s full-time postgraduate study programmes are open to applicants under the scheme*, which was first launched in November 2020 to those starting programmes in January this year.
The programmes on offer span multiple disciplines including energy, engineering, business and finance, computing and mathematics, biological and life sciences, and much more besides.
It is intended to support local people and businesses to either retrain and/or upskill in light of the impact of Covid-19 on the local economy and people’s livelihoods. The University has already offered over 700 free places on its online short courses in 2020 and 2021, supported by £775,000 in funding from the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) through its SFC Upskilling Fund.
Announcing the launch of the second phase of the Community Discount today (Wednesday, May 19), University of Aberdeen Principal, Professor George Boyne, said:
“As a University community we are determined to play our part in helping local communities deal with the economic impact of the pandemic.
“The University of Aberdeen Community Discount is just one demonstration of that, along with the hundreds of free places we have offered on our online short courses through the SFC Upskilling Fund.
“By providing a range of discount study options we are providing as much flexibility as possible to enable people to choose a learning option that suits their individual circumstances, helping to protect their livelihoods and meet the demand for skills training from local businesses. “I am delighted that we are able to launch this second phase of the Community Discount, which is testament to our commitment to serving our region as part of our wider institutional efforts to support local economic recovery.”
