Now in its second year’ the 2017 ceremony was hosted by Gray’s School of Art and saw prizes totalling £10,000 awarded to four Scottish art school graduates – Jordan Mcginlay (Gray’s School of Art), Joanne Dawson (Glasgow School of Art), Juli Bolanos-Durman (Edinburgh College of Art) and Agne Visniauskaite (Edinburgh College of Art).

Robin Blair, Chair of the Inches Carr Trust, said: “Scotland is home to a great number of wonderfully talented creative graduates, many of whom go on to become internationally acclaimed.

“These awards aim to recognise the talent Scottish Art and Design Colleges are helping foster and to encourage those graduates to go on to achieve their potential.  This was emphasised by Alison Kinnaird MBE, last night’s guest speaker, one of Scotland’s leading glass engravers.”

Work from all eight finalists was on display during the ceremony alongside films from each finalist.

Now in its twentieth year, the Inches Carr Craft Bursary awards were also awarded, each for £5000, and were given to established Scottish makers James Rigler and Lynne MacLachlan-Eastwood.

The awards dinner, which took place at Seven Incorporate Trades, Trinity Hall, was chaired by Head of Gray’s School of Art, Professor Chris O’Neil.

He said: “These awards are such a significant event and help to celebrate the talented artists we have across the craft, art and design disciplines in Scotland.

“The caliber of this year’s entries was once again extremely high and no doubt the judges had a very difficult task in selecting the winners, who have proven to be at the very top of their game.”
