Work has been completed on new traffic light system on a city bypass roundabout

WORK has finished on installing a new traffic light system on the Kingswells south roundabout on the city bypass (AWPR/B-T) to improve safety of the junction.

Aberdeen City Council’s operational delivery committee agreed the move at a meeting in March.

The £360,000 cost of the installation has been funded by Transport Scotland which was also the principle funder of the new trunk road, along with Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Council.

The cost of the ongoing maintenance of the traffic lights will be met by Aberdeen City Council.

Councillor Sandra MacDonald, Aberdeen City Council transport spokesperson, said: “The new traffic lights at the A944 roundabout will improve safety for motorists and cyclists at the junction.

A Transport Scotland spokesperson said: “We have been working closely with Aberdeen City Council, the Roads Authority for the A944 Kingswells South Roundabout, to enable these works to be undertaken. We advise all road users to take particular care at this junction while they become accustomed to the new road layout.”
