A NEW primary road is to be built at Barratt Homes’ ‘Riverside Quarter’ development in Bucksburn to improve traffic flow in the area and reduce traffic volume transiting through Mugiemoss Road.

The works will be carried out in accordance with approved planning consent with the bulk of construction and associated traffic management set to start in mid-August. The new primary road is scheduled to open for use in December.

Barratt Homes, in conjunction with Aberdeen City Council and its designated contractor, WM Donald Ltd, is working to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum. Temporary traffic lights and minor road diversions will be implemented to ensure the safety of the community and workers.

David Palmer, Managing Director of Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Scotland, said: “We place great importance on designing developments with the needs of residents and the wider community at their heart, so this new road will help take traffic away from Mugiemoss Road and onto a new fit-for-purpose route that will help improve traffic flow and volume. Throughout construction, we will work to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum and that locals have unimpeded access to public transport.”

Work will commence on phase one this month. This will see the closure of access from Old Meldrum Road to the A947 and Bankhead Road, which is necessary to complete the installation of the new road layout.

During the 12-week closure of these areas, only buses will be permissible to Bankhead Road to ensure local residents have undisrupted access to public transport.

Phase two will begin in November, introducing contraflow on the A947 to allow for the completion of the junction tie-in.

It is expected that by mid-December, access to the new primary road will be open to all traffic and the contraflows removed. The local bus route will also transit through the new primary road.

Smaller works will continue throughout December and January to finalise junction works at Mugiemoss Road, Old Meldrum Road and Bankhead Road. All traffic management is expected to be removed by early February.
