ABERDEEN City Youth Council held an event at the Foyer yesterday evening to launch their Youth Housing Survey Report.

The report, based on the views of 595 young people from across Aberdeen, was compiled for young people by young people and will provide valuable information to professional services within the city on how much young people know about housing issues and what they wanted from professionals.

The youth-led survey was conducted with support from Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeen Foyer, Scottish Youth Parliament and Langstane, Castlehill and Grampian Housing Associations.

Aberdeen is the first city to take this approach to youth participation in housing, and the data collected from this will contribute towards the Local Housing Strategy.

Aberdeen City Council Communities, Housing and Public Protection Committee Convener Councillor Miranda Radley, said: “It is fantastic that our city’s young people are getting actively involved in housing matters and being able to have a say in what housing advice should be provided for young people.

“Being able to take this approach in youth participation in housing will hopefully encourage more young people to take an active role and make their voices heard.”

Rebecca Cuthbert, chair of Aberdeen City Youth Council, said: “I strongly believe that it is important to represent the voices of young people across Aberdeen to highlight their views and opinions on matters that affect them.

“I am delighted to share the Youth Housing Survey results in this report, which I strongly believe has caught the authentic views and opinions of young people across the city on this important matter. I hope the information is used to make an impact on services and the resources that young people are reliant on.”
