FLOTATION Energy, one of the partners behind plans for the world’s largest floating windfarm, has relocated into the iQ office building on Justice Mill Lane.

The energy firm employs around 50 people in Aberdeen, though significant growth is expected after proposals were approved for Green Volt, around 50 miles off Peterhead. The move sees the international firm take 3,812 sq ft of newly refurbished offices on the ground floor of the building.

The iQ building, which has been home to Centrica since 2011, now has just one remaining suite available as companies make the move into the city.

“We were looking for an innovative environment, aligned sustainability credentials and a thriving community for our team,” said Dan Wright, Flotation general counsel.

He added: “The iQ Building offers all of these, and we look forward to getting to know our colleagues and neighbours here.”

Flotation Energy delivers clean, green, and renewable energy by using its expertise in floating and fixed offshore wind to support the energy transition and carbon-neutral commitments. It joins a cluster of energy and renewables businesses already located in the building.

In addition to its bespoke open-plan offices, Flotation Energy will have access to the IQ Building’s newly refurbished common areas, including a new reception, business lounge and revitalised atrium break-out area designed to support collaborative working. The Grade A building has also achieved a BREEAM certification of ‘Very Good’ and an ActiveScore rating of ‘Gold’.

Fiona Lyons, Director, Asset Management, UK at Mapletree Investments said, “The IQ Building offers exceptional best- in- class office space. Significant investment has been made to refurbish the asset so that we can offer tenants like Flotation Energy an excellent and conducive place to work, grow and ensure their people thrive.”

Matthew Park, Partner at Knight Frank, commented, “We’re delighted to welcome Flotation Energy to the IQ Building. Aberdeen continues to maintain its position as a global energy hub with more companies relocating to the city centre.  With the amenities that the IQ building offers, together with its ESG credentials, we’re confident occupiers will be happy here.”
