ABERDEEN-based charity, Gathimba Edwards Foundation (GEF) has partnered with AberNecessities to create a unique fundraising opportunity. GEF are hosting a special screening of Disney’s beloved classic, The Jungle Book on Sunday, 18th February 2024, at Vue Cinema, Shiprow.

Thanks to generous sponsorship from Buchan Wealth Management, 30 tickets have been gifted to families supported by AberNecessities who may never have had the opportunity to visit a cinema before.

Director of Buchan Wealth Management, Alastair Buchan, commented: “We are delighted to sponsor GEF in partnership with AberNecessities, it is great to support these worthy local charities and enable them to organise this experience for local children and their families.  The Jungle Book is a fantastic movie – one of my favorites, and we hope everyone enjoys the day.”

Danielle Flecher-Horn, AberNecessities’ founder, commented: “We are really grateful to the Gathimba Edwards Foundation for providing cinema tickets to some of the children we support.  Sharing an experience with their families is so important and creates happy memories which will be cherished for years to come.”

The event not only promises an enchanting movie experience for local children and their families but also serves as a fundraiser for GEF’s original mission to provide as many children as possible with the opportunity of a bright future, both in Aberdeen and in Kenya.

“At the heart of what GEF does, is families, so we thought what better way to bring people together on a wintery weekend afternoon, than a date with Disney on the big screen,” said Kayleigh Paterson-Donald, Charity Development Executive at GEF.

Kayleigh added: “There are so many wonderful local charities in Aberdeen, and it is a pleasure to be able to team up with AberNecessities in a common goal.  This event can make a meaningful difference in the lives of local children, giving them an unforgettable day at the cinema with their families, but also supports children abroad.  Fundraising from this event will contribute to paying school fees for children who otherwise wouldn’t have access to it.”

Tickets are on sale to the general public and can be purchased directly from the charity website: www.gathimbaedwardsfoundation.org/cinema-Sunday. All funds from this event will enable GEF to pay five children’s primary school fees for one year.
