PARENTS in Aberdeen are discovering the perfect early Christmas gift for their children – the gift of science. Aberdeen Science Centre is hosting “Science with Santa” workshops, offering a unique blend of holiday cheer and scientific exploration for young minds. Bookings for the workshops opened in November, with limited spaces available for the sessions scheduled on Saturday and Sunday, December 16 and 17.

Sponsored by the environmentally conscious commercial cleaning company Tidy Green Clean, these workshops promise an enchanting experience for children, allowing them to meet Santa and his scientifically inclined elves. The festive lab sessions are designed to be both educational and entertaining, offering kids the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities.

During the workshops, children will embark on a journey of discovery, creating their own winter wonderland by learning how to make fake snow. This tactile experience allows them to sculpt their snow creations before exploring the intriguing effects of chemical reactions as their snowy masterpieces ‘melt.’

In addition to the scientific festivities, young participants can unleash their creativity by crafting Christmas tree baubles using science-based art techniques. The combination of learning and hands-on activities aims to spark curiosity and make science a joyous experience.

Admission to the “Science with Santa” workshop is £18 per child, inclusive of a Christmas gift and a photo opportunity with Santa Claus. The ticket also grants admission for up to two accompanying adults and one hour of exploration on the exhibition floor, either before or after the workshop. While under 3s can accompany their older siblings for free, they won’t be able to partake in the workshop activities.

With limited spaces remaining, parents are encouraged to secure their child’s spot promptly to ensure they don’t miss out on this festive fusion of fun and learning.

Calli Buchanan, Public Programme Coordinator at Aberdeen Science Centre, expressed excitement about the upcoming workshops, stating, “Santa Claus is coming to town to take part in our Science with Santa workshops later this month, and we are incredibly excited to be adding a touch of winter magic to our centre in time for his visit.”
