FOUR Robert Gordon University final year Events Management students are raising awareness of the new Erskine Activity Centre in Forres, Moray, by hosting a local makers market. The event, called ‘A Fine Fair’, will take place at The Barn at Barra Castle (located in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire) from 11am until 4pm on Sunday 14th April 2024. Tickets will be sold both online and on the door. Veterans and under 12s go free.

A Fine Fair is a spring pop-up makers market event that aims to showcase the North-East’s finest food producers and craft makers. The fair will showcase over 40 local vendors, including food, drinks, arts, crafts, plants and much more, with raffle prizes featuring donated items by vendors and local businesses available as well.

A calligraphy workshop will be hosted by local artist, Donia Rae, who will be providing guests with expert tuition and practice workbooks to make beautiful glass frames filled with dried pressed flowers, sourced from a local florist. A charcuterie workshop will be hosted by family-owned business, Platter, teaching guests how to pick the best produce and various cutting and layering techniques, to create delicious platters to take home and enjoy. Both workshops have limited availability and require advanced booking.

A Fine Fair will create a valuable network through bridging gaps between the industry, the community, and its residents by celebrating local North-East businesses. The event is partly sponsored by Mearns FM and J&S Subsea. Mearns FM is a community-based radio station which covers South Aberdeenshire who have kindly offered marketing of the event to help increase awareness of A Fine Fair and Erskine across the North-East. J&S Subsea is an energy equipment and solutions company based in Kintore, Aberdeenshire who have donated a generous amount to the event.

Most importantly, the event aims to raise awareness of the Erskine Veterans Charity. Erskine is Scotland’s largest Veterans’ charity and has been supporting Veterans since 1916. Erskine currently has a Veterans Village based in Bishopton, Renfrewshire, where the charity supports Veterans in several ways, by offering them Assisted Living Apartments, a Care Home, and an Activity Centre where the Veterans can learn new skills, meet new people, and share their stories.

Recently, there have been some exciting new developments for Erskine within the Northeast. The charity is currently moving towards opening a new Erskine Veterans Activity Centre (EVAC North), in Forres in 2024. Erskine’s current Activity Centre has been life-changing, and sometimes lifesaving.

Speaking about EVAC North, Michael Parkes, Erskine’s Fundraising & Development Manager (North) commented:

“Erskine is looking forward to supporting Veterans in and around Moray, as we progress with our plans to open our new Activity Centre in Forres.  A larger than normal proportion of Moray’s population is made up of the Veteran community, which includes those currently serving, service leavers and their dependants.  Subject to our securing affordable and practicable planning consent, EVAC North will aim to meet any unmet support needs within the community. A huge thanks to the Event Makers Co. for organising ‘A Fine Fair’.  This incredible event takes place in the build-up to the 80th anniversary of D-Day in June, which is such a poignant time to support Erskine.”

Event Makers Co. commented:

“A Fine Fair has had such a great response from the people of Aberdeen and the wider community already, whether commercial or local. We would like to say a big thank you to all our sponsors who have been so generous in their aid. We cannot wait to see everyone at the event where we hope to raise a lot of money for Erskine. It’s going to be a fine day out for all!”
