WITH the cost of living rising across the UK and abroad, Brits will understandably be looking to limit their spending. This might mean avoiding major purchases, and scaling back on things like holidays.

Fortunately, there’s no shortage of destinations in Europe that will offer plenty of enjoyment without demanding that you spend an enormous amount. This goes especially if you’re equipped with an EasyJet discount code for NHS workers.

In many cases, you might be fairly astonished at how much history, culture and natural beauty you’re able to enjoy in some of the places we’re about to look at.

Georgia

Georgia is a part of the world that’s just emerging from the shadow of Soviet communism, and it has an enormous amount to offer the average tourist. If you’re looking to enjoy the natural world, then it’s unbeatable, thanks to the heavily forested Caucasus. If you’re travelling during winter, then you might even be able to enjoy an extremely budget-friendly skiing trip.

Malta

If you’re looking for a glamorous, yet affordable alternative to the Costa del Sol, then you might try a visit to Malta. This part of the world has become popular among tourists, thanks to its use as a location for Game of Thrones. You can spend even less if you elect to avoid some of the more well-travelled tourist hotspots along the coast.

Bulgaria

If you’re looking for a city break, then Bulgaria is difficult to beat. You’ll get all of the same history, landmarks and culture you might enjoy further to the west, except that you’ll end up paying significant less for your accomodation, dining and nights out. Sofia is a popular destination for couples, families, and groups of friends, and it remains among the most affordable capitals on the continent.

Portugal

If you’re travelling to Portugal, then the abundance of natural beauty might be obvious. But if you want to keep the cost of your trip low, and avoid the crowds at peak times, then it’s worth searching beyond the famous Algarve beaches, and travelling through some of the more obscure national parks and some of the more remote villages and towns. On the other hand, you might end up spending much less than you would in, say, France, even if you stick to Lisbon, Madeira, and other major attractions.

Slovenia

A trip to Slovenia will serve up lashings of spectacular scenery, and a wonderful capital city in the form of Ljubljana. It’s famous for the quality and affordability of the dining, especially the street food. So, if you’re looking for a bit of a foodie adventure, here’s where you’ll find it. If you’d prefer more outdoor excursions, then you might make time for a visit to the Triglav National Park, which takes its name from the mountain at the centre.
