The SSFA, which was established in 1903, is an independent charity which works with schools to support and promote pupils’ wellbeing through football.

Melissa’s outstanding talent caught the attention of scouts during a highly successful Girls Tournament, where she played a pivotal role as an integral member of Albyn School’s newly formed Girls U15 Football team. Her impressive performances did not go unnoticed, leading to close scrutiny as scouts observed her exceptional skills while representing her Aberdeen club.

Out of 35 talented girls selected for the final SSFA trial on 18 December in Glasgow, Melissa emerged as one of the standout performers, securing one of the 18 places in the final squad. Her dedication and prowess on the field have earned her the opportunity to represent Albyn School and Scotland in the upcoming Bob Doc Tournament, set to take place in Athlone, Ireland, next year.

Melissa’s passion for football ignited at the young age of seven, and her journey to the international stage reflects years of hard work, commitment, and love for the sport.

She said: “Scouts came to some of the games, looking for people to select for the international team. I got an email that I should come to Glasgow for the trial. I think the trial went really well for me.

“I feel very good about myself. I think I want to pursue football in the future.”

Headmaster, Stefan Horsman, commented: “Melissa has not only made history as the first Albyn girl selected for the SSFA Girls U15 International Squad, but she has also exemplified the key qualities of resilience and teamwork that we seek to foster at Albyn School.

“The whole Albyn School community is very proud of Melissa and we look forward to witnessing her continued success on the international stage.”
