COUNCILLORS have axed plans for a new high school in Countesswells, favouring a larger new build in Hazlehead instead.
The future of the new town has been unclear for two years now, after developer CDL entered administration.

Around 900 homes have been built in Countesswells thus far, and a new primary school opened its doors in April.
When the 1,000th home is erected, the council are required to build a new secondary school after entering an agreement with CDL, although it looks like that milestone may never be reached.
As things stand, only 47 Countesswells children are on the roll at the nearby Hazlehead Academy, and as a results the council’s education committee opted to drive forward plans for a 1,600 capacity Hazlehead Academy.
Dangerous concrete found in St Machar
Scaffolding has been erected around a staircase in St Machar Academy after reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) was found in the school.
Last month, the city council revealed seven schools were at risk of having the ‘bubbly’ concrete found in their buildings.
Since then, Abbotswell School, Cornhill School, Quarryhill School and Westpark School have been given the all clear, however, it has been found in St Machar Academy, Northfield Academy and Hazlehead Academy.
Repair work has been carried out at the latter two, though work remains ongoing at St Machar.
Council calendar blunder leads to extra school day in December
A city council calendar error means school staff and pupils will be in class on Friday, December 22.
The council previously didn’t’ give staff a day off for Good Friday, leaving them with a last minute scramble to find a solution to the problem.
After surveying 9,000 staff, pupils and their families, almost two-thirds voted to stay an extra day before the Christmas break.
