Aberdeen's Chester Hotel has completed the creation of six new luxury suites and the refurbishment of 28 bedrooms

THE Chester Hotel, in the west end of Aberdeen, has completed the creation of six new, luxury suites and the refurbishment of 28 bedrooms. This brings the number of suites in the four-star hotel to 11, which represents more than 20% of the hotels bed stock. The investment has been made following customer demand for bigger, more extravagant accommodation post-pandemic.

The hotel removed the smallest of its existing bedrooms, knocking them into five classic suites with separate living and bedrooms.

One larger, executive suite – the Harlaw Suite – has also been created from a space previously in use as a public area.

More than half of the hotel’s bedrooms have also been refurbished with new carpets and décor throughout. The remaining 24 hotel bedrooms were all created in 2019 and opened just prior to pandemic lockdowns.

Graham Wood, owner of The Chester Hotel along with Gillian Wood, commented: “As the hotel emerged from the pandemic, we noticed a significant trend of guests looking for larger, more luxurious rooms and our suites were always the first accommodation to fill.”

Each of the luxurious suites has its own character and individual design; embracing the building’s rich heritage with a modern, elegant twist. The custom-built furnishings and interior design are sleek and contemporary. The rooms also feature a selection of curated original Scottish artwork. The artwork appears throughout the hotel with one of the world’s largest collections of works by John Byrne, often described as one of Scotland’s greatest artists.

One highlight of the Harlaw Suite is a grand feature fireplace and picture windows.

The House – a free standing house within the grounds of the hotel which can be booked on an exclusive basis or by individuals – which has four rooms, is also proving particularly popular with overseas golfing groups and wedding parties.

Graham continued: “We believe it’s important to follow guest trends to remain relevant to our customer base. We’re also committed to continued investment in the hotel and in the north-east of Scotland.

In addition to increased demand for suites, guest trends include travellers seeking hotels with increased green credentials. The Chester Hotel continues work to further minimise the impact on the planet, by embedding sustainability at the heart of everything it does. Local producers provide everything from eggs and coffee to shampoo and menu printing. Cleaning products are biodegradable and non toxic, landfill waste is continually reduced and the hotel supports local good causes, having donated more than £800k to children’s charities in recent years.

The Chester Hotel, in Queen’s Road is Aberdeen’s only AA four silver star hotel. More about the hotel can be found at www.chester-hotel.com
